Azad Reads ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the Bagheera mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not access or use the Service.

2. Information We Collect

A. Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Name (optional)
  • Account preferences and settings

B. Pet Care Data

When you use the Service, you may provide information about your pets, such as their name, breed, date of birth, medical history, vaccination records, vet appointment details, and care routines. This data is provided and controlled by you.

This data is used solely to provide the features you request and is not used for advertising, profiling, or unrelated tracking.

C. Photos & Media (Optional)

You may optionally attach photos of your pets or documents (e.g., vaccination certificates) to your pet profiles. These are stored to display within the Service and can be deleted by you at any time.

D. Usage & Technical Data

We automatically collect technical information about your use of the Service, including:

  • Application version and operating system
  • Error logs and crash reports (no personal data included)
  • Feature usage statistics (anonymized)
  • IP addresses, which may be logged for security and fraud prevention purposes
  • Device type and identifiers

E. Payment Information

If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment processing is handled entirely by our third-party payment processor. We do not directly collect or store your credit card numbers or sensitive financial information. We only retain billing records such as transaction IDs, plan type, and billing dates for accounting and customer support purposes.

F. Communications Data

If you contact us for support or participate in surveys or beta programs, we collect the information you provide in those communications (e.g., your email and the content of your message) solely to respond to you and improve our Service.

3. Permissions We Request

To provide certain features, the app may request device permissions:

  • Notifications: used to send you reminders about vaccination dates, appointments, and care routines you schedule
  • Camera / photo library: used only when you choose to attach a photo to your pet profile

Permissions are used only for the features described above and can be managed in your device settings at any time.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Service operation: to provide, maintain, and improve the Service
  • Pet care features: to store, display, and remind you about the pet care records you enter
  • Account management: to manage your account, subscriptions, and billing
  • Customer support: to respond to your inquiries and resolve issues
  • Security & fraud prevention: to detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and unauthorized access
  • Service improvement: to use anonymized usage data to improve reliability

Our lawful basis for processing personal data under GDPR includes: performance of a contract (to provide the Service), legitimate interests (improving the product, security), legal obligations, and your consent (for optional features such as marketing emails).

We may share your information with third parties when you have given explicit consent for us to do so.

7. Data Retention

We retain different types of data for different periods of time:

  • Account information: retained until you delete your account
  • Pet care records: retained as long as your account is active, or until you delete them
  • Anonymized usage statistics: retained for up to 2 years
  • Billing records: retained as required by applicable tax and accounting law
  • Support communications: retained for a limited period after last contact

When data is no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymize it. Anonymized, aggregated data that cannot identify you may be retained indefinitely for product analytics.

Your data is processed on cloud infrastructure hosted in India. Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.

CCPA, California Residents

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) grants you additional rights, including the right to know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and sell; the right to delete personal information we hold about you; the right to opt out of the sale of personal information (note: we do not sell your data); and the right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.

10. Third-Party Services & Links

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites. We encourage you to read their privacy policies before providing any information.

We work with select third-party service providers to operate the Service, including cloud hosting and database infrastructure, payment processing, analytics, customer support, and error monitoring. All service providers are vetted for security and privacy compliance and are under contractual obligations to protect your data and use it only as directed by us.

11. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13 years of age (or under 16 in certain jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under these ages. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us at support@azadreads.org and we will promptly delete it.

12. International Data Transfers

Azad Reads operates from India. For users located outside India, personal data is processed on our cloud infrastructure and may be transferred to and stored in countries other than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses, to ensure your data receives an equivalent level of protection.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and post the revised policy here. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Your continued use of the Service after any changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
